TAPE DRAGS IN FF & REWIND (REPLACE MOTOR, P/N 8-835-495-01) Tape would drag in FF and RW modes with 120 minute tapes -torque meter tapes read good. Found capstan motor binding slightly.

DISPLAY FLASHES, THEN UNIT SHUTS OFF (REPLACE D-D CONVERTER) The display would flash momentarily, then the unit would shutdown.

DISPLAY SHOWS ERROR 10 (RE-FORM REF. # 159) The display would show error 10. Noticed that the TA LoadingLever (ref. #159) was making physical contact with the main chassis as itmoved forward or backward. The clearance between these parts is less thanthe clearance found on the TCD-D3.

DISPLAY SHOWS ERROR 11 (RE-GREASE MECHANISM) Display would show ERROR 11. After removing several gears(to allow the moving parts to be moved by hand) I noticed that some of theparts did not appear to move freely and smoothly.

STATIC AND DROP-OUTS (REPLACED DRUM ASSY) The customer complained of static and drop-outs in the audio.The RF envelope did not have a good square shape, and adjusting the tapepath did not correct it.

NO OPERATION ON BATTERY POWER, O.K. ON AC ADAPTER The unit would only operate from the AC adapter, not from thebatteries. Found that the negative battery terminal was bent in such away as to prevent any contact with the negative side of the batteries.

DISPLAYS ERROR 40 OR ERROR 41 AFTER TAPE IS LOADED The unit would display error 40 or error 41 after a tape wasloaded. Found that the washer (ref. 181) which secures the pinch rollerassy (ref.169) to the chassis had come off the shaft of the pinch rollerassy, allowing it to move away from the chassis.

DISPLAYS ERROR CODE 10 WHEN LAODING A TAPE The unit would display error 10 when trying to load a tape.Found the mechanism was not properly aligned, as if it were subjected toan excessive shock. The rotary encoder and loading gears were out ofalignment, and the supply side tape guide did not move

NO AUDIO FROM RIGHT CHANNEL Customer claimed that there was no audio from the rightchannel. Examination of the unit indicated that the left and rightchannel audio was O.K., both from line-out and headphone out.
